BCHL-180x240The Merritt Centennials got all three goals from players named Zach, with Zach Metsa netting the OT winner, in a 3-2 home win over the Victoria Grizzlies.

Victoria led 1-0 after one on a Jake Stevens goal but Zach Risteau tied it in the second. In the final frame, Zach Zorn put the Centennials in front but Kevan Mokhtari scored with 1:45 to go in regulation to force the game to overtime.

Just 27 seconds into the extra session, Metsa converted a setup from Michael Regush and Brett Jewell to win it. Jacob Berger made 35 saves for the win.

After allowing the first goal of the game, the Penticton Vees would allow no more and wound up with a 3-1 win over the visiting Powell River Kings. Johan Steen got the Kings on the board 4:24 into the game but it would be the only puck to beat Mat Robson on the night. Chris Klack replied for the Vees and Grant Cruikshank got the winner before the first intermission. Ty Amonte added insurance just 25 seconds into the second and Robson made 20 saves for the win.

Jared Domin’s goal three minutes into overtime delivered a 4-3 win for the Cowichan Valley Capitals over the visiting Nanaimo Clippers. Max Newton’s first of the game made it 1-0 after one but Danny Pion’s first BCHL goal and one from Matt Creamer put the Clips in front in the second. Newton would tie it again briefly before Jake Harris restored the Nanaimo advantage. In the third, Michael Montambault’s goal 26 seconds in set the stage for OT and Domin’s winner. Lane Michasiw made 31 saves for the win.

A three-goal second period for the West Kelowna Warriors paved the way to a 4-2 home win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Stephen Kleysen opened the scoring for West Kelowna in the first and Braiden Epp made it 2-0 on the power play in the second. Jake Harrison’s goal wound up being the winner and another goal on the man advantage, by Connor Sodergren, made it 4-0 heading to the third. Trevor Cosgrove and Mackenzie Wright scored for the ‘Dogs in the third but that’s as close as they got. Shane Farkas made 25 saves for the win.

A five-goal barrage in the first period was more than enough for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in a 7-2 win over the visiting Trail Smoke Eaters. Jared Turcotte’s power-play goal opened things up and Haydn Hopkins, Elijiah Barriga and Mitch Skapski followed which chased Trail starter Zach Dyment. Josh Blanchard greeted Linden Marshal with the 5-0 goal at 12:06 of the first. Blaine Caton got the Smokies on the board in the second but Carson Bolduc responded for the ‘Backs. Connor Brown-Maloski and Barriga traded tallies in the third. Nic Tallarico got the win, making 26 saves.
