Bandits claim WCC title and spot in RBC Cup

Conner Jean’s second-period hat trick put the Brooks Bandits in control of the game and into the RBC Cup as they took a 6-1 decision over the Chilliwack Chiefs to claim the Western Canada Cup presented by Sun Life Insurance.

OFFICIAL BOXSCORE

Oliver Chau opened the scoring in the first for Brooks but Justin Dixson replied for Chilliwack shortly after and it was 1-1 after one.

Jean got his first on the power play early in the second and it proved to be the winner. Arnaud Vachon added the first insurance marker and Jean followed with his second and third late in the middle frame.

Parker Foo scored into an empty net just past the 11-minute mark of the third as the Chiefs pulled goalie Mark Sinclair early for the extra attacker.

Brooks qualifies for the RBC Cup national championship in Cobourg, Ont. The Chiefs will have another shot at getting into the RBC when they take on Penticton Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
