Barton commits to UML

In what has been a whirlwind few weeks of hockey news for Seth Barton, the piece that started it all off was his commitment to NCAA hockey.

The Trail Smoke Eaters defenceman has inked with UMass-Lowell with the intention of heading there for the 2019-20 season. In addition to that bit of news, Barton also was listed by NHL Central Scouting in their latest publication and was one of 28 BCHL players invited to the Team Canada West selection camp for the World Junior A Challenge.

So far this season, Barton has four goals and 10 assists in 24 games. The BCHL rookie and native of Kelowna is second in scoring among Trail defencemen.

But as far as college hockey, Barton’s NCAA future is with the River Hawks two seasons down the road. Barton, listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, will be joining the UMass-Lowell program that competes in the NCAA’s Hockey East conference along with Boston University, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, Boston College, Providence, Northeastern, UConn, UMass and Merrimack.

BCHL alums on the River Hawks roster this season are Chris Forney, Chris Schutz, Sean Cleary and Connor Sodergren.
