BCHL Playoff Recap – Friday, April 13

Jasper Weatherby notched a goal and two assists and Austin Park stopped all 25 shots he faced as the Wenatchee Wild shutout the Prince George Spruce Kings 4-0 to take Game 1 of the Fred Page Cup Final.

Spruce Kings goalie Evan DeBrouwer made 52 stops in the loss as Wenatchee more than doubled Prince George’s shot output, while Park’s 25-save shutout was his first of the postseason.

DeBrouwer faced 17 shots in the first period alone and stopped them all as the game was scoreless heading into the intermission. The Wild finally broke through midway through the second period when Sam Hesler and AJ Vanderbeck scored 57 seconds apart to give their team a 2-0 lead after two. Wenatchee kept the pressure on as Weatherby and Zak Galambos added third-period goals and the Wild cruised to the 4-0 victory.

With his three-point effort tonight, Weatherby now has a 10-point lead in the BCHL playoff scoring race with 33 points in 16 games and also leads the way in goals (14) and assists (19).

Wenatchee improves its record to 9-0 at home in the postseason, while Prince George sees their road record fall to 3-6.

The Spruce Kings will look to bounce back in Game 2 tomorrow night in Wenatchee.
