BCHL Playoff Recap – Sunday, March 11

The Prince George Spruce Kings scored three goals in the third period to come from behind to beat the Chilliwack Chiefs 3-1 in game seven and advance to the second round.

After going scoreless in the first 50 minutes of the game, Prince George got a shorthanded goal from Ethan de Jong and another at even strength from Jay Keranen less than a minute-and-a-half apart to take the lead. Ben Brar sealed the game and the series for the Spruce Kings with an empty-netter in the final minute.

Chilliwack took the early lead when PJ Marrocco scored his second of the playoffs 51 seconds into the game, but Spruce Kings goalie Evan DeBrouwer shut the door from there, stopping 27 of the 28 shots he faced in the win. Prince George will host the Surrey Eagles to start their second-round Mainland Division series.

Kurtis ChapmanĀ  stopped 31 of 32 shots and was named the game’s first star as the Victoria Grizzlies completed their comeback and beat the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 3-1 in game seven of their first-round series. Victoria led 1-0 going into the third period after Finn Withey scored his first of the postseason just over five minutes into the game. In the final frame, Cameron Thompson and Cole Noble scored to increase the Grizzlies lead to 3-0. Julian Benner responded with a late goal for Alberni Valley, but their comeback fell short. After going down 3-0 in the series, Victoria clawed back to force a deciding game seven tonight. The Island Division champions move on to the second round where they will take on the Powell River Kings at home in game one.
