BCHL Playoff recap – Tuesday, April 4

BCHL-FPC-180Jordan Kawaguchi had a hat trick by the end of the second period, pacing the Chilliwack Chiefs’ offence in a 6-0 road win over the Victoria Grizzlies that puts the Chiefs up 2-1 in the Coastal finals.

Kawaguchi got the only goal of the first period, delivering on the man advantage in the final minute of the opening frame. In the second, Kohen Olischefski made it 2-0 Chiefs before Kawaguchi got another power-play marker and one at even strength to complete the hat trick just 2:13 later.

Aaron O’Neill got his first of the postseason in the third period with Justin Dixson adding another power-play goal to round out the scoring. Chilliwack went 3-7 on the man advantage while only needing to kill one Grizzlies power play on the night. Mark Sinclair made 17 saves for the win and gave way to Mathieu Caron for the final 8:17 of the game and he made one stop to preserve the shutout. Game 4 goes at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Victoria

In Vernon, the Vipers fashioned a shutout of their own in a 3-0 victory over the Penticton Vees that evens the Interior Finals 2-2.

Jagger Williamson scored twice in the first to give Darion Hanson all the support he’d need for the night. The second saw no goals and Niko Karamanis added the final touch with an empty-netter in the final minute of regulation.

Hanson made 32 saves for his second shutout of the playoffs. Mat Robson stopped 29 shots for the Vees. Game 5 of the series is set for Friday at 7 p.m. in Penticton.
