Campese set to play for Brock University next year

Surrey Eagles forward Matthew Campese has committed to the Brock University Badgers for the 2018-19 season.

Campese split his time last year with the Eagles and the West Kelowna Warriors, finishing the season with a combined total of 11 goals, 14 assists and 25 points in 38 regular-season games. He was also part of Surrey’s postseason run to the Mainland Division finals, chipping in with 10 points in 12 games, including the series-clinching overtime-winning goal in Game 6 of their first-round series with the Langley Rivermen. The 20-year-old from West Kelowna finishes his BCHL career with 42 points in 56 regular-season games.

“We are extremely proud of Matthew and his commitment to Brock University,” said Eagles head coach Brandon West in a story published on the team’s website. “He was a key factor on our team this season and was phenomenal in the playoffs. Brock is getting a first-class person. We’re very excited for him.”

Brock University is located in St. Catharines, Ont. and plays in the Ontario University Athletics conference. The Badgers went 14-9-5 in the 2017-18 season and finished fifth in the West division.

Last year Brock’s roster included former BCHLers Alexander Brooks-Potts, Skylar Pacheco, Mitch Nardi, Nathan Looysen, Ayden MacDonald and Braden Pears.

Campese will be joined next year by Eagles goaltender Mario Cavaliere who also recently committed to the Badgers.
