Chiefs name Roy captain for upcoming season

The Langley Chiefs are proud to announce their captains for the upcoming 2009/10 season. Mac Roy, who is entering his fourth year with the club, will be the 19th captain in Chiefs history. Roy will be counted on for his offense as much as his leadership this season after consecutive 30 plus goal seasons. “

“Mac was an obvious choice for us,” says Chiefs Head Coach/GM Harvey Smyl , who believes Roy has matured a great deal since arriving as a 17 year old. “He has developed into a solid two-way player and someone who we count on in the crunch.”

Joining Roy as Assistant Captains will be a pair of 20-year olds in Brad Bakken and Marcus Watson. Bakken, a Langley native, wore the `A’ last year at home and will be counted on to lead a young defensive group that has lost Jessie Tresierra, Evan Atkinson and Chris Ickert since last season.

Watson, who had a brief stint in Langley last year before going back to the WHL’s Prince George Cougars, is an offensive weapon who should anchor one of the top two forward lines.

Rounding out the group are Colton Beck and Trevor Gerling. The two will alternate wearing the letters at home and on the road (Beck at home, Gerling on the road); Colton developed into one of the league’s premier goal scorers last year and much like Roy and Watson will be counted on to produced in his final season as a Chief.

Gerling, in his second year with the club is hoping to make a Beck-like jump in production while continuing his solid play at both ends of the ice.

Don’t miss the first chance to see the Chiefs new leadership group and roster Saturday night at the first ever game at the Langley Events Centre.
