Coastal Playoff Update: Eagles clinch second round spot

After a neck and neck series everything came down to the extra effort of an overtime decision that went the Eagles way for the second time in as many nights.

Surrey (3) eliminates Langley (1)

The Chiefs went down swinging last night in another heartbreaking overtime loss to the Eagles, this time by a 2-1 score.

Surrey Eagles' Adam Hartley opened the scoring early in the first and the lead held up until late in the second when Colton Beck tied it up for the Chiefs. But the hero of the night was Chris Santiago, who scored the overtime goal that extends the Eagles' playoff run to the second round.

Surrey's goaltender Tommy Tartaglione was named first star of the game for his 43 save performance, while Joe Rodwell was also named as a star for stopping 52 of the 54 shots he faced.

The Eagles will now go on to face the Powell River Kings with a series that starts Friday night on the Sunshine Coast.

The Kings came out on top the last three times these two teams met in regular season, besting the Eagles by at least three goals each time. The Kings are now coming off a two week game hiatus, while the Eagles are in stride coming out of their tight series against Langley.
