DeBrouwer backstops PG to league finals, earns POW

Prince George Spruce Kings goaltender Evan DeBrouwer has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending April 8, the league announced Monday.

DeBrouwer started the week by making 52 saves in a 3-2 double-overtime loss to the Powell River Kings in Game 3 of the league semifinal and was named the second star of the game. The following night, the 21-year-old native of Blenheim, Ont. stopped 33 shots in a 5-4 win over Powell River in Game 4. DeBrouwer closed out the week by making 29 saves on 30 shots and earning the 3rd star in the Spruce Kings series-winning 2-1 overtime win in Game 5.

In three games this week, DeBrouwer stopped 114 of the 122 shots he faced and had a save percentage of .934 and a goals-against average of 2.16. The 6-foot-1, 200 pounder ranks second in the BCHL playoffs with a 1.96 goals-against average, fifth with a .925 save percentage and first in shutouts with two.

DeBrouwer and the rest of the Spruce Kings will take on the Wenatchee Wild in the Fred Page Cup final starting Friday night in Wenatchee.
