Finnson commits to Alabama Huntsville next year

Victoria Grizzlies defenceman Dayne Finnson has committed to play for the University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers for the 2018-19 season.

Finnson has been one of the most dependable players in the BCHL since he entered the league in 2016-17 as he has only missed two games in his two years in Victoria, playing in 114 regular-season games. The Arborg, Man. native posted career highs this year with five goals and 36 assists for 41 points in 56 games. He also contributed 14 points in 29 playoff games over his two seasons.

Alabama Huntsville plays in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) against Alaska Anchorage, Alaska, Bemidji State, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, Minnesota State and Northern Michigan. This season the Chargers finished seventh in the WCHA with an in-conference record of 10-16-2 and lost in game three of the best-of-three quarterfinals of the WCHA tournament to second-ranked Northern Michigan.

Alabama Huntsville currently has a pair of BCHL grads in former Alberni Valley Bulldogs defenceman Kurt Gosselin and former Chilliwack Chiefs goaltender Mark Sinclair.

Finnson is the only current BCHLer to commit to the Chargers.
