Five BCHL alums named to WCHA All-League Teams

Five BCHL alums were named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s (WCHA) 2017-18 All-League Teams, the NCAA conference announced this morning.

Former Langley Rivermen forward Mitch McLain, who is now a senior at Bowling Green, was named to the All-WCHA Second Team, along with former Coquitlam Express standout Adam Rockwood, who is a junior forward at Northern Michigan University. McLain had 24 points in 28 conference games for the Falcons, including the fourth-most goals with 15. Rockwood led the WCHA with 24 league assists in his first season since transferring from Wisconsin and tied for second in scoring with 32 points. The Coquitlam native had 38 assists overall this year, which is the most by a WCHA player since the 2012-13 season.

Darien Craighead, who played with Langley and the Chilliwack Chiefs was named to the All-WCHA Third Team, as well as former Alberni Valley Bulldogs goalie Connor LaCouvee. Craighead, who is now a sophomore forward at Northern Michigan, scored 15 goals in conference play, including a league-best six game-winners, and added 11 assists. Lacouvee is a senior at Minnesota State University and was named the WCHA Goaltending Champion with a 1.67 goals-against average in league play. The 23-year-old from Qualicum Beach tied for the WCHA lead in wins with 17 and finished with a .915 save percentage and two shutouts.

Former Vernon Vipers forward Steven Jandric was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team in his freshman season at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Prince George native had the fourth-most rookie assists in the conference with 14 and finished with 17 points and a plus-5 rating.
