Gould picks up WCHA nod for Huskies

GGould-180Following his older brother’s footsteps at Michigan Tech, Gavin Gould has wasted little time making his own mark.

Gould was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) rookie of the week after posting two goals and a helper in the Huskies’ two-game sweep of rival Lake Superior State. His older brother Malcolm was a four-year standout for the Huskies and graduated the program after last season.

The younger Gould scored both his goals – the first two tallies of his NCAA career – Friday night as the Huskies downed the Lakers 6-1. The next night, he assisted on the tying goal as the Huskies came back to defeat the Lakers 4-2.

A native of North Vancouver, Gould played three seasons in the BCHL. His first two seasons were spent in Merritt with the Centennials and the Nanaimo Clippers acquired him for their push to the playoffs at the end of last season. In 169 career BCHL games, Gould racked up 65 goals and 90 assists for 155 points.
