Hennig earns Hockey East nod

Jace Hennig scored more goals in his freshman NCAA season at Merrimack College a year ago than he ever did in a BCHL campaign.

Now, he’s broken new ground again as he picked up his first player of the week award in the Hockey East conference.

Hennig notched a pair of goals – the insurance tallies for Merrimack – in a 4-1 win Saturday over Canisius College. The Port Moody, B.C. product now has three goals and four assists in 15 games on the season.

In the BCHL, Hennig played 127 career games – 100 with the Coquitlam Express and a stint in Prince George where he played the other 27. Over that span, the 5-foot-9, 175-pounder scored 20 goals and added 42 assists.
