Howarth earns BCHLPOW honours

Trail Smoke Eaters forward Kale Howarth has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 1, the league announced Monday

Howarth tallied four goals and two assists in the Smoke Eaters two wins last week. The 6-foot-5, 207-pound native of Red Deer, Alta. scored a hat trick in his team’s convincing 7-3 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday and followed that up with a goal and two assists the next night in Trail’s 6-4 win over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. He was named the 1st Star in both games. The wins brought the Smoke Eaters to within two points of the division-leading Vernon Vipers, with a game in hand.

The Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick now has 16 points in eight games played this season, one point behind teammate Ross Armour for first in the BCHL. Howarth is committed to the University of Connecticut for next season.
