Kleysen commits to Purple Eagles

When you’re looking to land a commitment to college hockey from the BCHL, it never hurts to put your best foot forward at the annual Bauer BCHL Showcase.

That’s just what West Kelowna Warriors defenceman Stephen Kleysen did as he notched two goals and two assists from the blueline at the event in Chilliwack. The showing likely played a part in the 6-foot, 190-pound Winnipeg native’s recent commitment to NCAA Div. I Niagara University for the 2018-19 season.

Kleysen has four goals and nine assists in 20 games on the season and he looks good to surpass his numbers from last season where he had 6-17-23 in 58 games.

At Niagara, Kleysen will join a Purple Eagles program that competes in the NCAA’s Atlantic Hockey Association along with Air Force, AIC, Bentley, Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, Army West Point, Canisius, RIT, Mercyhurst and Holy Cross.

BCHL alums on the Purple Eagles roster this season are Brian Wilson, Christian Cakebread and Chris Harpur.
