Linell to play at UConn

He’ll know the ropes of the league he’s headed to because his older brother played in the same one but it’s a different program that Coquitlam Express forward Eric Linell is headed to.

The native of Great Neck, N.Y. has committed to the University of Connecticut and the Hockey East conference for next season. His older brother Danny played in the same conference and won a national title in 2012 with Boston College.

The younger Linell has been a huge part of the Coquitlam attack this season, leading the team with 24 goals and 40 points in 48 games this season. His goal total puts him in a tie for fourth in the entire league. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound forward was named the BCHL Player of the Week Dec. 5.

At UConn, Linell will join a Huskies program that competes in conference along with Northeastern, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Boston University, Massachusetts, UMass-Lowell, Merrimack, Providence and the aforementioned Boston College.

UConn’s roster this season includes former BCHLers Miles Gendron, Jeff Wight and Jesse Schwartz.
