MacEachern inks with U of T

Trail Smoke Eaters defenceman and captain Evan MacEachern has committed to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues for the 2016-17 season.

MacEachern joined the Smokies part way through the 2014-15 season and in 14 games collected five assists.  In 45 games this past season he had nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points. His leadership abilities proved to be a great asset to the team.

“I’m extremely proud to be joining the University of Toronto Varsity Blues this upcoming season,” said the Dartmouth, N.S. native. ” I believe it will be a great experience for both my hockey career and my studies.

“Moving on from junior hockey will be a new challenge but one that is very exciting.  I’m proud to say I was a part of the Trail Smoke Eaters organization who prepared me for the next level with their number of resources and the  opportunity I was given.  I want to thank the volunteers, coaching staff, as well as my billet families the Martins and Flicks.”

With the Varsity Blues, MacEachern will be joining a team that features fellow BCHL grad Andrew Hunt, who was the team’s No. 1 goalie this past season. The U of T competes in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) OUA West division against schools such as Western Ontario, York, Ryerson, Windsor, Waterloo and Laurier.

MacEachern concludes his BCHL career with 12 goals and 37 assists in 93 games.
