Mennear helps Warriors into WCC title game

Brett Mennear continues to be a force for the West Kelowna Warriors at the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup.

The current BCHL Player of the Week and West Kelowna native scored the game’s opening goal and then set up first-period tallies by Jonathan Desbiens and Kylar Hope, propelling the Warriors to a 4-1 win over the Melfort Mustangs Thursday afternoon.

OFFICIAL BOXSCORE

Bryan Basilico, with his third goal in the last two games, made it 4-0 in the second. Melfort’s Travis Mayan spoiled Keelan Williams’ shutout bid with a goal at 8:16 of the third period.

The win moves the Warriors record to 3-1 at the WCC after the round-robin portion of the tournament. That’s good enough for second place in the standings and pits them against the Brooks Bandits Saturday night for the WCC title.

The loser of Saturday’s game will have a second chance to grab an RBC Cup berth as that team will play the winner of the 3rd/4th place game. That will be the tournament’s final contest and is set for 3 p.m. Pacific time on Sunday.
