Michie commits to RMC

The Coquitlam Express are proud to announce 20-year-old forward Matt Michie has committed to play university hockey at Royal Military College (RMC).

“We are extremely proud of Matt and seeing him getting this opportunity is awesome,” said Express Head Coach and General Manager Barry Wolff. “It takes an exceptional character person to enroll in such a prestigious and demanding institution as RMC. Matt will take with him his high-end work ethic and his will to succeed on and off the ice.

“Matt was a great person in the community and will make the Paladins a better hockey team and school.”

The native of Port Coquitlam, B.C. chipped in four goals and nine assists for the Express last season while leading the league with 144 penalty minutes.

“I’m very excited to be playing hockey for the Royal Military College next season, and taking the next step in my career,” said Michie. “Thank you to the Coquitlam Express family for helping me achieve my goals.”

The Paladins play in the Ontario University Athletic Association East division in the CIS and are located in Kingston, Ont. Other teams in the Paladins’ division include Carleton, Queen’s, Concordia and McGill. Former BCHLer John Saunders is also a member of the RMC program.

Michie will join the infantry officer program and enrolled in the university’s faculty of arts.
