RBC Cup – Chiefs get past Jr. Sens

Kaden Pickering’s goal with 8:44 to go in the third stood up as the winner for the Chilliwack Chiefs in a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Junior Senators, putting Chilliwack into the RBC Cup final.

It was 2-1 Chiefs after one with Anthony Vincent opening the scoring. Ottawa captain Owen Guy responded late in the frame but 45 seconds after that, Skyler Brind’Amour put Chilliwack back up by one heading to the intermission.

The only goal of the second was one by Pierre-Luc Veillette, in the final minute of the middle frame, to even things 2-2 heading to the third.

Pickering’s winner came just past the midway part of the final frame and wound up being the difference.

Both goaltenders faced 29 shots on the night with Daniel Chenard making 27 saves for the win while Connor Hicks stopped 26 for Ottawa.

Chilliwack will play the Wellington Dukes for the national title Sunday in a 4 p.m. puck drop.
