Sandhu chooses ASU

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs are proud to announce that rookie standout Jordan Sandhu has committed to the NCAA Div. I program of the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Sandhu led all 1999-born players in scoring in the BCHL this season with 40 points (5G, 35A) in 44 games. The next closest ’99 in scoring was Merritt Centennials’ Tyler Ward with 27 points in 52 games.

“I would like to thank my coaches for giving me the opportunity to play in such a great organization, my teammates, and fans for making my first year one to remember,” said Sandhu. “I decided to play at Arizona State because it is an up-and-coming program that is progressing at a fast pace and on the road to a successful future. The staff is very passionate about their hockey program and I look forward to being a part of that.”

ASU just completed there first season as an NCAA Div. I club. They played a hybrid schedule of game against NCAA and club team opponents. Next season, they will transition into a full NCAA schedule with placement into a conference in 2017-18.

The Sun Devils have been a strong recruiting presence in the BCHL since their Div. I inception. This past season, they had Jordan Masters, Nick Gushue, Matt Kennedy, Jake Clifford, David Jacobson and Charlie Zuccarini on the roster along with transfer Wade Murphy, a former Victoria and Penticton forward who originally went to North Dakota. Current BCHLers Owen Sillinger of Penticton and Gage Mackie of Surrey are also committed to ASU.

First, however, Sandhu anticipates big things in his upcoming BCHL campaign.

“I really look forward to what we will do next season in the Alberni Valley.”
