Simeone signs on with Merrimack

Christian Simeone played all 58 games this season for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and suited up for each game in the postseason as the ‘Dogs went seven against the Victoria Grizzlies.

The durability should come in handy in college hockey where Simeone is headed for next season when he’ll be a freshman for the Warriors of NCAA Div. I Merrimack College.

A native of Milton, Mass., Simeone recorded 12 goals and 11 assists to go along with 44 penalty minutes this past season. He added a goal and two helpers in the seven-game series against Victoria.

At Merrimack, Simeone joins a program that competes in the Hockey East conference along with Boston College, New Hampshire, Vermont, Northeastern, Boston University, Providence, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts and UMass-Lowell.

Simeone’s commitment comes on the heels of Wenatchee forward August Von Ungern’s pact with the same school so they will be teammates next season. So far they are the only two current BCHLers to commit to the school for next season.

This past year, former BCHLers Marc Biega, Jace Hennig and Mathieu Tibbet suited up for the Warriors.

In 2018-19, Merrimack will have a new head coach in Scott Borek who was a longtime assistant coach in Hockey East with Providence and New Hampshire.
