Star commits to Spartans

In what will be his first and last full season in the BCHL, Kyle Star has made the most of the experience.

The Langley product started the year as captain of the Surrey Eagles and has since moved to Trail, where he’s helped the Smoke Eaters battle for a playoff spot and now has a college hockey commitment as well.

Star will stay close to home as he’s signed on to play with the Trinity Western University Spartans of the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL).

The 6-foot, 175-pound forward has 10 goals and 12 assists this season, split between Surrey and Trail. He played two seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and had 29 goals and 43 assists in 108 games there.

Former BCHLers on the Spartans current roster include Ryan Bakken and Matthew Vela.

The BCIHL is a five-team league and TWU competes against Simon Fraser University, Eastern Washington University, the University of Victoria and Selkirk College.
