Verrall commits to York

VerrallWith a 6-foot-3, 202-pound frame, Cowichan Valley Capitals defenceman Ben Verrall boasts a frame any hockey coach would love to have on the blueline.

York University will be the beneficiary in this case as Verrall has accepted an offer to play for the USports program in Toronto.

In three seasons on the Caps back end, Verrall posted eight goals and 21 assists while accumulating 163 penalty minutes. The native of Saskatoon wore an ‘A’ on his sweater this past season as well.

At York, Verrall will join a Lions program this is coming off a successful 26-12 season including a 15-4 mark at home. York won their way to the USports championship round hosted at the University of New Brunswick before losing 1-0 in overtime to the University of Saskatchewan.

The Lions roster this past season featured just one former BCHLer in ex-Vernon Vipers forward Mitch Van Teeling.

York competes in USports’ OUA West division along with Laurier, Toronto, Brock, Ryerson, Western, Waterloo, Windsor, Lakehead and Guelph.
