Weatherby’s pair paces Wild to win

Jasper Weatherby scored twice in the first period and Seth Eisele stopped everything that came his way as the Wenatchee Wild earned a 4-0 win over the Merritt Centennials in Game 1 of their Interior Division series.

The winning goal came at 9:30 of the first with Weatherby converting a setup from Murphy Stratton and Zak Galambos. Weatherby, the BCHL MVP and top scorer this season, added his second of the period on the power play at 14:24 of the first.

Galambos added one of his own in the second, another power-play tally that made it 3-0. AJ Vanderbeck tacked on the final Wild tally with just over two minutes to go in the second and prompted the Cents to make a goalie change, swapping Austin Roden in for Jacob Berger.

Neither team hit the scoresheet in the final frame and Eisele needed to make just 14 saves for the shutout. Wenatchee wound up 2-for-8 on the man advantage while Merritt was afforded just two power plays but were unable to convert on them.

Game 2 of the series goes Saturday in Wenatchee with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
