Wilson, Pope take NCAA nods

It was a good week for Powell River Kings alumnus Brian Wilson and also for former West Kelowna Warriors standout David Pope.

Wilson, a freshman at Niagara University, was named the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) goalie of the week while Pope, now a senior at Nebraska-Omaha, took the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) offensive player of the week.

Wilson took the AHA goalie nod after posting his first two NCAA wins in a road sweep over Sacred Heart. The native of Pickering, Ont. stopped 37 of 39 shots in the two games for a .949 save percentage. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound netminder came on in relief in the first game and stopped all 13 shots that came his way, allowing Niagara to come back and win 3-2. He started the next night and made 24 saves in a 6-2 win.
