Here are a few need-to-know items with Game 5 coming up Thursday in Wenatchee:

 

• Spruce Kings standout and Quinnipiac commit Ethan de Jong produced both the winning goal and the insurance Tuesday night. He is tied for second in playoff scoring with 13-14-27 in 23 games played

 

• Wenatchee’s Jasper Weatherby was held off the scoresheet last night, breaking a 12-game playoff scoring streak. The North Dakota recruit continues to lead postseason performers with a remarkable 15-21-36 in just 19 games. (Chilliwack’s Jordan Kawaguchi, now at North Dakota, set a mark of 43 points in the playoffs last season which was achieved in 23 games played).

 

• Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee is the venue for Thursday’s Game 5. The Wild are 10-0 there in the playoffs and were 24-4-1 there in the regular season. Their last loss on home ice was January 27, a 3-2 loss to the Merritt Centennials.

 

• Wenatchee can become the first U.S.-based club to win the BCHL championship since the 1979 Bellingham Blazers, a club that featured future NHLer Wayne Van Dorp as well as future NCAA stars Don Fraser (Denver), Steve Abbott (Western Michigan) and Chris Tucker (Minnesota-Duluth)

 

• The winner of the Fred Page Cup will advance to take on the winner of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). That league is also currently in its Finals, with the North Division champion Spruce Grove Saints holding a 3-1 series edge on the South Division rep, and regular-season champion, Okotoks Oilers. (The Oilers finished the season on a 24-game winning streak and after a first-round playoff bye, won five more in a row to start the playoffs).
