Allan, Mowrey combine for seven points in Grizzlies win

The Victoria Grizzlies' power-play made short work of the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday night, scoring three times in the span of 8:08 to open the first period en route to a 5-2 road victory.

Alex Allan, with a pair, and Dustin Mowrey did the damage in the opening frame for the Grizzlies. And while Jackson Garrett brought the Capitals within a pair with a late period tally, Cowichan Valley would get no closer on the night. Jimmy Carter scored at the 7:21 mark of the second to restore Victoria's three-goal lead prior to the team's trading third period markers.

Dustin Mowrey capped the scoring with an empty netter to put the finishing touches on a four-point evening, while Allan was named the game's first star on the heels of a three-point performance.

Garrett and John Morea were the only Capitals to beat Victoria starter Richie Virtanen, who turned aside 33 shots in the win.

The Grizzlies will look to extand their recent run of strong play when the host the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday evening, while the Capitals now head to the Sunshine Coast for a Sunday meeting with the Powell River Kings.
