Another season of Read with the Chiefs begins this week

The Langley Chiefs are excited to give back to their community and will do so with the re-launch of their very successful Read with the Chiefs program.

This will be the third year since the program’s inception here in Langley and the demand has grown to match the popularity of the surging BCHL club. The initial day of the program will be October 7th, 2008 as Chiefs players will read to students at twelve schools on that day in each gymnasium at 10am. The goal of the program is to help children understand the importance of education.

“It is important for us to give back and get out into the community as a thank you to the fans who come out and support us every night,” says Head Coach and General Manager Harvey Smyl, who helped initiate the program in his early years with the Chiefs. “But it is also important that the kids who see us playing hockey also know that an education is more important and is something everyone has to work at.”

Each classroom the Chiefs go to will not only get the chance to meet their local hockey idols, but they will also receive two complimentary tickets to a Chiefs game courtesy of Century Pacific Foundry. This way each kid can take mom or dad along with them to see to see the same player who read to them playing as well.
