Badger, Schelling, Auyeung-Ashton named FortisBC 3 Stars of the Month

Alberni Valley Bulldogs forward Grayson Badger, Langley Rivermen forward Ryan Schelling and Victoria Grizzlies goaltender Oliver Auyeung-Ashton have been named the FortisBC 3 Stars of the Month.

1st Star – Grayson Badger (F) – Alberni Valley Bulldogs

Badger was the league’s leading scorer in November, totaling 17 points in 11 games on seven goals and 10 assists.

The 20-year-old had five multi-point performances during the month, including three straight to close out November where he registered a combined 10 points. After putting up a career-best five points in a Nov. 23 win over the Powell River Kings, Badger followed that up the next weekend with his first hat trick in the BCHL, including the overtime winner, in a Nov. 29 victory over the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

The Northeastern University commit enters December in a tie for fourth in league scoring with 30 points in 23 games and tied for sixth in the BCHL with 14 goals.

2nd Star – Ryan Schelling (F) – Langley Rivermen

Schelling tied for the league lead in goals last month with nine and was just one back of the points lead with 16 in 10 contests.

The 2004-born forward had at least one point in all but two November games. He tied his career high in points in a single contest with with four when he registered a goal and three helpers in a Nov. 30 win against the Prince George Spruce Kings. He also had two other three-point performances, each coming in wins over the Nanaimo Clippers and Prince George again.

After his strong month, Schelling has climbed into a tie for second in league scoring with 34 points in 25 games, including 16 goals which is tied for second most in the BCHL and just two back of the league lead.

3rd Star – Oliver Auyeung-Ashton (G) – Victoria Grizzlies

Auyeung-Ashton won all five of his starts in November, stopping 165 of 174 shots during the month to post a .948 save percentage, a 1.74 goals-against average and one shutout.

His shutout on Nov. 8 came in a 3-0 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and was his first of the season and seventh of his BCHL career. The Colgate University commit allowed more than two goals just once over those five games.

Auyeung-Ashton has a league-best .941 save percentage this year, while his 1.91 goals-against average is third in the league.
