Alberni Valley Bulldogs forward Grayson Badger, Sherwood Park Crusaders goaltender James Venne and Langley Rivermen forward Dalton MacGillivray have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Grayson Badger (F) – Alberni Valley Bulldogs
Badger notched four goals and an assist in a pair of games over the weekend, including his first career BCHL hat trick.
On Friday night, the 20-year-old Northeastern University commit accomplished the milestone in a 4-3 overtime win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Badger potted two goals in the first period, including one on the power play, then clinched the win in extra time with his third of the game. He was named first star.
On Saturday against the Chilliwack Chiefs, the Hyde Park, Mass. product picked up an assist in the second period and a goal in the third as the Bulldogs comeback fell short in an 8-6 home defeat.
Badger has been on a roll of late, totaling six goals and five assists over his last four games. He sits tied for fourth in league scoring with 30 points in 23 games and was recently named the November 1st Star of the Month.
2nd Star – James Venne (G) – Sherwood Park Crusaders
Venne won both of his starts last week, stopping 64 of 67 shots, earning a .955 save percentage in a pair of wins over conference rivals.
The Saskatoon, Sask. native made 30 saves on Friday night in his team’s 10-2 win against the Cranbrook Bucks. Despite the lopsided score line, the Crusaders were outshot 32-30, but Venne stood tall.
The following night, Venne made 34 stops on 35 shots in a 3-1 victory of the league-leading Brooks Bandits. Venne allowed a goal 3:09 into the game, but was a brick wall after that. Brooks continued to pour on the pressure in the opening frame, firing 19 shots on goal, but the 20-year-old swatted aside 18 of them. He was named first star of the game.
This season, the first-year BCHLer owns a .903 save percentage and a record of 11-7-0.
3rd Star – Dalton MacGillivray (F) – Langley Rivermen
MacGillivray picked up three goals and two assists last week for a total of five points in two games.
The Lindenwood University commit scored a power-play goal in the final seconds of the first period in last Thursday’s 4-3 loss to the Penticton Vees.
A couple of nights later, MacGillivray had his second four-point outing of the season in an 8-5 home win over the Prince George Spruce Kings. The Cloverdale, B.C. native notched a goal and an assist in a wild first period that saw the Rivermen take a 4-2 advantage to intermission. He would go on to register another assist in the second, then seal the game with an empty-netter in the third.
MacGillivray now has seven goals, 12 assists and 19 points in 18 games this season.
