Bandits tie series after Game 2 win

The Brooks Bandits evened the Doyle Cup series at one after beating the Prince George Spruce Kings 3-1 in Game 2 on Saturday night.

After dropping Game 1, the Bandits were all over Prince George from puckdrop, scoring 3:01 into the game and outshooting the Spruce Kings 22-3 in the opening period.

Tyler Campbell scored the early goal for Brooks and Arnaud Vachon doubled the lead with a power-play goal midway through the frame to make it 2-0 after one. Prince George’s 16-year-old rookie Finlay Williams scored on a 2-on-1 with under five to play in the second to cut into the lead, but Jakob Lee restored the Bandits’ two-goal edge in the third period and Brooks held on for a 3-1 win.

The Bandits outshot the Spruce Kings 41-14 in the game and PG goalie Logan Neaton made 38 saves in a losing effort, a night after he shutout Brooks in a 2-0 win.

With the series tied 1-1, that means Game 3 goes tomorrow night in Brooks at 6 p.m. PDT before the scene shifts to Prince George for the rest of the series, starting with Game 4 on Wednesday night.
