BCHL Finals Recap – Tuesday, April 17

Ethan de Jong potted a pair of goals, including the game-winner late in the second period, Ben Brar added three assists and Evan DeBrouwer made 27 saves as the Prince George Spruce Kings stayed alive in the Fred Page Cup Final with a 4-2 win over the Wenatchee Wild in Game 4.

The Spruce Kings struck first when team captain Kyle Johnson scored less than five minutes in and his teammate Patrick Cozzi followed that up with his fifth of the postseason with nine seconds left in the first to give his team a 2-0 lead after one. Wenatchee stormed back in the second with goals from AJ Vanderbeck and Lukas Svejkovsky, but de Jong replied with under 30 seconds to go to reestablish the Spruce Kings lead at 3-2. DeBrouwer shut the door from there, stopping all eight shots he faced in the third period and de Jong finished off a pretty passing play with Dylan Anhorn late in the frame to clinch the 4-2 Prince George win.

de Jong added an assist to give him a three-point night and increase his team lead in playoff points with 24 in 22 games, good enough for third overall in the BCHL.

Vanderbeck’s goal gives him nine points in four Fred Page Cup Finals game so far. He currently has the second-most points in BCHL playoff scoring.

With the win, Prince George forces a Game 5 back in Wenatchee on Thursday night at the Town Toyota Center, where the Wild have yet to lose this postseason in 10 contests and have outscored their opponents 48-18.
