BCHL Friday: Chiefs tally 9 to top Eagles

Sometimes they do it with lots of goals, sometimes with just a few. But no matter the ingredients, the outcome seems to be the same whenever the Langley Chiefs and Surrey Eagles renew their Mainland Division rivalry.

On Friday, the Chiefs made it four straight over Surrey with an offensively-charged 9-5 win on the road. Milos Gordic led the way with two goals and assist for the visitors, while Mac Roy, Chris Ickert and Trevor Elias also tallied multi-point games. Spencer Bennett and Tom Janosz each put up a trio of points for the Eagles.

Elsewhere around the Coastal Conference:

  • The Nanaimo Clippers picked up a much-needed win in Powell River, downing the Kings 3-2. The line of Russell Goodman, Eric Filiou and Ronnie Smith combined for six points for the Clips while Erik Vos and Kyle Bodie replied for the home team.
  • Four second period goals powered the Cowichan Valley Capitals past Burnaby. Alex Gellert led the way with a pair of goals for the Caps and Chris Rawlings made 24 saves and picked up third-star honours in the win.

Meanwhile, the Merritt Centennials started 2009 on a winning note, topping the Prince George Spruce Kings 3-2 in overtime. Brad Bourke netted the winner for the Cents while Alex Goodship set up all three of his team's goals. Harrison May was tough to beat in net, turning aside 42 of 44 Spruce Kings shots.

Elsewhere around the Interior Conference:

  • Salmon Arm busted open a four-goal lead in the second period and held on to top Trail by a 5-3 score. Justin Cseter assisted twice for the Silverbacks, who received a fine 38-save performance in net from Tony Ierfino .
  • Ryan Viselli and Travis Ouellette each notched three points in a 6-3 Penticton Vees win over Quesnel. Sean Bonar stopped 35 Millionaires' shots while Eric Galbraith scored twice in a losing cause.
  • Andrew Hammond stopped 23 shots and received solid offensive support from his Vernon Vipers teammates in a 5-1 home ice win over Westside. Cole Ikkala and Adam Thompson each tallied a pair of points for the Vipers.
