BCHL Friday: Kings post sixth straight win

You can chalk one up for the Powell River Kings in this weekend's battle for Mainland Division supremacy.

The Kings built a two-goal third period lead against Langley on Friday and held on for a 5-4 win on home ice, increasing their division lead to six points over the Chiefs — who are also their closest division competitor.

It was a meeting that featured some of the league's top offensive stars, and they didn't disappoint. Powell River's Clay Harvey and Darcy Oakes and Langley's Derek Grant and Trevor Elias each had three point nights.

Elsewhere in Coastal Conference buildings:

The Nanaimo Clippers received goals from Joe Perry, Steve Mason and Eric Filiou in a 3-1 home ice victory over Cowichan Valley. Spencer Edwards scored the lone Capitals goal, while Clippers netminder Evan Smith turned aside 17 shots for the win.
The Surrey Eagles busted out of an October funk with a 7-1 win over Alberni Valley. Adam Hartley led the way for the Eagles with two goals and an assist while Ryan Pajimola and Mike Krgovich also contributed multi-point efforts.

Meanwhile, the Westside Warriors made it back-to-back victories with a 5-2 decision in Vernon in the BCHL Game of the Week. Garrett Watson's three-points paced the Warriors attack while Kevin Jebson was strong in goal, stopping 26 of 28 Vipers shots.

In other Interior Division buildings:

The Prince George Spruce Kings shut down BCHL leading scorer Mark Zengerle but allowed a trio of third period goals and fell to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks by a 5-3 score. Ashford McMaster, Jason Beattie and Matt Grassi all tallied two points for the Silverbacks, while Bryan Gillis turned aside 26 shots for the win in net.
Denver Manderson and Zach Jospeher each assisted on three goals in Penticton's 6-1 home ice win over Quesnel. The Vees attack was paced by four third period goals while Sean Bonar stopped all but one of 20 Millionaires shots.
The Trail Smoke Eaters took a 3-0 lead early in the third period and held on for a 5-3 win over a suddenly slumping Victoria Grizzlies squad. Ryan Bulach and J.F. Boisvert led the Smokies cause with two points apiece while Paul Barclay picked up the victory with a 25-save performance.
