BCHL grad Cox named captain at Colgate

Powell River Kings alumnus Ethan Cox was honoured twice during Colgate University's End of Year Banquet, picking up one award for his play this season while being handed the team's co-captaincy for his senior season.

First, Cox was named the Raiders' Top Defensive Player for the 2008/09 season. The forward thrived in a checking role in his junior season while also scoring a pair of goals and adding 12 assists in 37 games.

Later in the evening, Cox was named a co-captain for the 2009/10 season. Cox will share the 'C' with fellow senior and ECAC First-Team Selection David McIntyre next year.

The 21-year old was also recognized for his leadership in the community earlier this season as a nominee for the BNY Mellon Hockey Humanitarian Award. It was the second consecutive year that Cox was nominated for the award, which honours personal character, scholarship and community service.

Cox was one of five British Columbia Hockey League graduates to play at Colgate this season. He was joined by senior forward Peter Bogdanich and freshmen Alex Evin, Austin Smith and Corbin McPherson.

Evin and Smith were teammates on the 2008 Penticton Vees squad that won the Fred Page Cup while McPherson, a Cowichan Valley Capitals alum, is a draft pick of the New Jersey Devils.
