BCHL Playoff recap – Saturday, March 31

Jasper Weatherby scored twice in the third period and set up another for the Wenatchee Wild, lifting them to a 4-2 win over the Trail Smoke Eaters that puts the Wild up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.

Zak Galambos opened the scoring for the Wild with the only goal of the first, at tally with 59 seconds to go in the opening frame. Trail didn’t get on the scoreboard until the final minute of the second period when Seth Barton notched his second of the playoffs at 19:43. Wenatchee retook the lead just 1:15 into the third on Weatherby’s first of the night but Trail replied once again when Connor Welsh scored his first of the playoffs, making it 2-2.

It was a goal from Sam Morton just past the midway point of the third that stood up as the winner. Weatherby got his second of the game into an empty net to seal the win in the late going. Game 3 goes Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Trail.

A Patrick Cozzi goal in the second wound up being the winner for the Prince George Spruce Kings in a 5-1 victory over the Powell River Kings that puts PG ahead 2-0 in the series.

After a scoreless first, Blake Hayward got the Spruce Kings on the board in the middle frame and was followed by Cozzi just over 10 minutes later. Ethan de Jong made it 3-0 on a tally with just 1:03 left in the second.

In the third, Ben Brar scored 54 seconds in and Dustin Manz followed 1:46 later, making it a five-goal lead for the home side. Jack Long scored his first goal of the playoffs for Powell River, the long goal for the Kings on the night.

Evan DeBrouwer was required to make just 13 stops for the win. Game 3 is set for Monday at 7 p.m. in Powell River.
