BCHL Sunday: Big comeback extends Chiefs’ streak

The Langley Chiefs won again on Sunday, which isn't new. But it's the way they did it that's worthy of attention. Down 5-0 late in the second period and playing their third game in as many days, it would have been easy for the Chiefs to pack it in. But after a flurry of unanswered goals, Langley left Vancouver Island with a 7-5 victory in hand.

Derek Grant was once again the offensive star Sunday, notching a pair of goals and three assists in the game's final 21 minutes. Evan Atkinson scored two goals for the Chiefs, while Trevor Elias tallied three helpers.

The comeback wasted a very good Capitals effort through 40 minutes, with Taylor Holst and Brett Corcoran each putting two goals past Langley starter Wyatt Waselenchuk.

In other action, the Trail Smoke Eaters rebounded from a poor effort in Quesnel on Saturday, exploding for eight goals against the Merritt Centennials. Steve Koshley paced the Smokies offensively with a goal and a trio of assists while Andrew Pickering, captain Ryan Bulach and JF Boisvert put forth three-point efforts.

After a quiet Monday around the BCHL, action will resume with Cowichan Valley visiting Victoria on Tuesday night.
