BCHL Sunday: Cents best Kings for third win

Just a few days after the Merritt Centennials left a disappointing September in the rearview mirror, they discovered that October appears to have far better things in store.

The Centennials defeated the Powell River Kings 4-2 on home ice Sunday, locking up their fourth and fifth points from just three games this month. The contest marked the third game in three nights for Merritt, while the Kings were playing the final stop on a four-game Interior Conference road trip.

Harrison May led the way for the home squad, stopping 38 of the 40 shots directed his way by the powerful Kings offence, while Tyler Barr scored the game winner early in the third period. Erik Vos and Neil Chambers replied for Powell River.

In other Sunday action around the BC Hockey League:

  • The Vernon Vipers handed Penticton their second consecutive defeat, jumping out to a 4-0 first period lead and cruising to a 6-2 win. Bryce Kakoske led the way offensively for the Vipers with three points, while Braden Pimm and Adam Thompson each contributed a goal and an assist.
  • The Surrey Eagles received a 33-save effort from Tommy Tartaglione and three-point performances from Adam Hartley and Brennan Strang in a 6-1 home ice win over Burnaby. Max Grassi replied with the lone marker for the Express.

BCHL action resumes with two games on tap Wednesday, as Alberni Valley visits Cowichan Valley while the Trail Smoke Eaters host Merritt.
