Brushett commits to Nebraska Omaha

After starting the season with points in eight straight games and getting on the scoresheet in 16 of his 19 games played this year, Powell River Kings forward Ryan Brushett has earned a scholarship to the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks for the 2019-20 season.

The Verdun, Que. native is currently sixth in BCHL scoring with 29 points (14-15-29) and has 104 points in his 128 career regular-season games over his three years in the league, which include seasons with the Vernon Vipers, Surrey Eagles and Powell River.

This year’s Mavericks roster features three BCHL alums in former Penticton Vees forwards Riley Alferd, and Taylor Ward and former Victoria Grizzlies forward Cole Pickup.

Penticton’s Lukas Sillinger is the only other current BCHLer committed to Nebraska-Omaha as he is set to join them for the 2020-21 season.

The Mavericks play in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) along with Colorado College, Denver, Miami-Ohio, Minnesota-Duluth, North Dakota, St. Cloud State and Western Michigan.
