Surrey Eagles goalie Mario Cavaliere has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 14, the league announced Monday.

Cavaliere got his first two BCHL starts this weekend and earned shutouts in both contests, stopping all 72 shots he faced. On Friday, he made his debut after coming to Surrey from the Georgetown Raiders of the OJHL and stopped 29 of 29 shots in the Eagles’ 5-0 home win over their division-rivals the Langley Rivermen. After getting the night off on Saturday, the 20-year-old from Mississauga, Ont. got his second shutout in three days, making 43 saves in his team’s 7-0 home win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals. He was named the game’s first star in both his starts.

After his first two games, he has a save percentage of 1.000, a goals-against average of 0.00 and two shutouts. After this weekend, Surrey is in a three-way tie for first place in the Mainland Division with Langley and the Prince George Spruce Kings.
