Centennials get their revenge in hard-fought win over Westside

The Merritt Centennials bounced back from a tough loss on Friday night against the same team that handed it to them, beating the Westside Warriors by a 3-1 margin to take the second game of a weekend home-and-home series.

The Centennials received goals in each period on tallies from Jeff Jones, David Sabey and Jordan Soquila, and saw netminder Cole Holowenko allow just a single goal on 49 shots in the victory. Soquila added the insurance marker after Westside pulled within a single goal on a Grayson Downing power-play effort with less than a minute remaining in the second period.

Holowenko's 48 save performance earned him the first star nod on the night, while Warriors rookie Cam Gorchynski turned aside 26 shots in the loss.

Westside now embarks on a four-game Coastal Conference road swing that begins on Wednesday evening in Surrey, while the Centennials are also idle until the middle of the week when they travel to Vernon for a showdown with the defending RBC Cup champion Vipers.
