Chiefs’ Beck commits to Fairbanks

Langley, BC — February 9, 2009 — Langley Chiefs sophomore forward Colton Beck has committed to play for the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks beginning in the 2010/11 season.

Colton is currently enjoying a breakthrough season in which he has tallied 34 goals, 27 assists and 61 points, good for second place amongst Chiefs players and tenth overall in the BCHL.

Although the talent has always been evident, it is hard to have predicted the offensive output this year after a rookie season in which Beck notched only 10 points.

“Colton has really come along way for us,” Chiefs head coach Harvey Smyl said. “He has been great in the clutch and has been a force all year offensively for us.”

Smyl’s reference to Beck's ability in the clutch is backed by his league-leading eight game winning goals and four overtime markers.

“I’m excited to get the chance to play NCAA hockey and get a degree at the same time,” the speedy winger said.

Colton will join Milos Gordic, Derek Grant, Evan Atkinson, and Trevor Elias as Chiefs players committed to the NCAA. He will also join former Chief Cody Rymut at Alaska.

On behalf of the entire Langley Chiefs organization we would like to wish Colton congratulations on his achievement!
