Chorney commits to Buckeyes

Still not quite 17, Salmon Arm Silverbacks defenceman Austin Chorney already has over 100 BCHL games under his belt and will add another year of experience before heading off to college at Ohio State.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound native of Abbotsford posted six goals and four assists from the blueline this year in Salmon Arm.

He is committed to Ohio State to play for the Buckeyes starting in the 2019-20 season meaning he’ll add another year of development in the BCHL before going to school.

With the Buckeyes, Chorney will join a program that competes in the NCAA’s Big 10 conference that includes Penn State, Michigan, Minnesota, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

The Buckeyes have just one former BCHLer on their roster this season in Matt Joyaux. But under coach Steve Rohlik, the Buckeyes have been a strong recruiting presence in the BCHL this season with current BCHL players AJ Vanderbeck, Josh Prokop, and Layton Ahac also inked for coming seasons.
