Coastal Playoff Update: Grizzlies tie up Capitals

The second round of Coastal Conference playoff action is well underway with the next set of games to be played Tuesday night.

Victoria (1) at Cowichan Valley (1) — Tuesday 7PM, Cowichan Valley Community Centre

Cowichan split the series in Victoria’s home barn, taking the first game of the series by a close score of 3-2. Kevin Walrod was the Capitals’ impact player during the opening game against the Grizzlies contributing to all three goals against the top-seeded team.

The Grizzlies came out hard for the second game taking it with a 7-3 victory over the Capitals. The Grizzlies’ Evan Pighan led scoring with two goals on the night while Lee Baldwin, Jeff Forsythe and Trever Hertz each put up two assists.

Grizzlies’ goalie Anthony Grieco stopped 27 of 30 shots during the second game helping his team to the win, while Capitals number one Chris Rawlings was pulled in favour of Kiefer Smiley after allowing 3 goals on seven shots.

Powell River (2) at Surrey (0) — Tuesday 7PM, South Surrey Arena

Surrey has yet to capture a win on the road in the series so far but is going back home Tuesday to try and claim a win against Powell River.

The series’ first game closed with a 4-1 score while the second ended 10-0 with the Kings coming out on top after both games.

Darcy Oakes leads the Kings with eight points in their two game playoff run, while Tyler Morley has netted the only goal in the series for the Eagles.

Eagles’ goaltender Tommy Tartaglione has faced 56 shots this series and was pulled after five goals after 20 shots in Saturday's second meeting. Vinny Lessard stepped up for the Eagles shutting down 37 of the 42 shots he saw. Kings netminder Carsen Chubak has seen 46 shots so far this series and turned aside 45.
