Cocca headed to Brown

Merritt Centennials forward Bradley Cocca is currently enjoying a breakout year in his second BCHL season. He is leading the way for one of the highest-scoring teams in the league and can now add another accomplishment to his resume as he has announced his commitment to the Brown University Bears for the 2019-20 season.

Cocca currently sits third in league scoring with 45 points and his 30 assists are second-most in the BCHL. The 19-year-old from Mississauga, Ont. eclipsed last year’s total of 23 points long ago and now has 68 (23 goals, 45 assists) in 78 career regular-season games with the Centennials.

Cocca had previously earned a scholarship to Harvard, but felt that going with Brown was the best choice on and off the ice.

“After talking it over with my family, we felt that Brown was the better fit overall,” he said in a release from the Centennials. “The education was a big factor too, I know I won’t play hockey for the rest of my life so I wanted to go somewhere that I’d get the best education possible.”

Brown University is located in Providence, R.I. and plays in the ECAC Hockey conference along with Clarkson, Colgate, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Rensselaer, St. Lawrence, Union and Yale.

The Bears 2018-19 roster features BCHL alums Ben Taylor, Zach Guittari, Nolan Aibel, Tristan Crozier, Jake Harris, Colin Burston and Conner Wynne.

Chilliwack Chiefs forward Matt Holmes is also committed to Brown for the 2019-20 season.
