Coyne will play for Army West Point

As captain of the expansion Wenatchee Wild, Mike Coyne already knows a great deal about leadership and that will serve him well when he steps into college hockey next season at Army West Point.

Coyne committed to the NCAA Div. I program at the start of the month. Currently, he’s already tied his junior hockey career highs in goals with 10 and is approaching his high in assists with 23 as he’s posted 10-23-33 in 38 games played. He is second on the Wild in scoring and is tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals.

Wenatchee now has seven players committed to NCAA hockey for next season and Coyne is the second member of the club to earn a scholarship since they’ve joined the BCHL. Coyne is also one of four players in the BCHL this season committed to play for the Black Knights along with Trail’s John Laurito, Langley’s Dominic Franco and Merritt’s Nick Fiorentino.

Army plays in the NCAA’s Div. I Atlantic Hockey Association. Other schools competing in their conference are Air Force, Bentley, American International, Robert Morris, RIT, Sacred Heart, Holy Cross, Canisius, Mercyhurst and Niagara.

Other BCHL alums currently playing for the Black Knights are Blake Box, Taylor Maruya and Tipper Higgins.
