Prince George Spruce Kings forward Ethan de Jong has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 26, the league announced Tuesday.
de Jong was instrumental in the Spruce Kings seven-game win over the Surrey Eagles. The North Vancouver native had one assist in his team’s two losses in Surrey to start the week, but with Prince George facing elimination down 3-1 in the series, de Jong put up seven points over the next three games to lead his team to the series win. He scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in the Spruce Kings 3-1 win in game six and then matched his two-goal, one-assist performance in his team’s 4-0 win in game seven, again scoring the game-winning goal. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound forward was named 1st star in game seven and second star in game six.
de Jong is now tied for the third-most points in the BCHL playoffs with 16 and is second in goal scoring with nine in 14 games. After their game seven win Sunday, the Spruce Kings move on to the third round where they will face the Island Division champion Powell River Kings starting Friday at 7 p.m. in Prince George.
