Eagles alum McGowan coming up big at the right time

Now starting down the last weeks of his NCAA career, Surrey Eagles alum and RIT forward Brad McGowan is producing in a big way when it counts the most.

The Langley, BC native has earned the NCAA Div. I Atlantic Hockey Association's player of the month award after posting eight goals and five assists in eight February games for the Tigers.

This at a time when the team seems to be finding its form as they head into the conference playoff quarter-finals. The Tigers went 5-2-1 to finish up regular season conference play, aided by McGowan's 13 points and +8 rating in that time.

McGowan picked the perfect time to score his first college hat trick as it came in 4-3 win over first-place Robert Morris. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior reached the 100-point milestone for his career in an 8-0 win Feb. 27 over Mercyhurst.

The 2011 runner up for the BCHL scoring title now has 16 goals and 20 assists on the season, third on the team behind fellow BCHL alums Matt Garbowsky and Josh Mitchell.

In two seasons with the Surrey Eagles, plus one game as an affiliate with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, McGowan registered 48 goals and 87 assists for 135 points in 118 games.
